Motorists lament bad state of Enugu-PortHarcourt expressway

By  Anayo Okoli

Umuahia—THE Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway has become a death trap and a nightmare to motorists, barely after six months it was rehabilitated by FERMA.

Some portions on the road have completely failed and now co nstitute serious health hazard, as accidents occur on them on daily basis.

The areas worst affected include some portions on the stretch between Umuahia and Okigwe, and the stretch betwe en Ihube in Imo state and Isuochi Junction and the Cattle Market at Isuochi in Abia state.

These portions are in terrible state of disrepair and many people, especially those not familiar with the road, have lost their lives or their vehicles, badly destroyed on these spots.

Particularly, the failed portion on the cashew plantain between Ihube and Isuochi junction is now a threat to road users,  because it is in the middle of the road, and motorists on daily basis have accident at this spot.

“The road is very terrible. Look at a federal road, people die or get wounded on these failed portions of the roads on daily basis.

We have FERMA, see the road they did less than seven months ago, it has gone bad again. Yet the Minister of Work is in Abuja, making noise every day, let him come down and see the condition of the roads in the South East before he talks of the miracle they are doing on the roads across the nation.

“We spend fortune these days repairing our vehicles. We ply here every day, so imagine the wear and tear on our vehicles that ply these roads daily. It is so bad.

If we still have FERMA, let them come and do their usual patching to enable us manage if for some time”, an embittered motorists who gave his name as Chimezie, lamented.
