Iwu, biggest impediment to free polls —AC

AWKA—The Action Congress (AC) has said  that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Maurice Iwu, remains the single biggest impediment to the organisation of  free and fair elections in the country in 2011.

AC in a statement in Awka, Anambra state, yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said “the recent statement by Prof. Iwu, that inadequate personnel could constitute a problem to the organisation of the 2011 elections, is a ploy to hoodwink unsuspecting Nigerians into thinking all is well with INEC and its leadership.

“Whether INEC has 50,000 staffers or 1 million staffers is irrelevant. The bottom line is that this commission can never organise a successful election under Prof. Iwu, the most biased, incompetent electoral umpire in the history of our nation,” it said.

AC repeated its earlier assertion that Prof. Iwu is nothing but an unrepentant apologist of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who will stop at nothing to swing election results in favour of the party, whether it wins or not, in addition to bad mouthing other parties and blaming everyone but himself for the 2007 elections debacle.
