Firms seek N28bn more to complete N-Delta roads

ABUJA— Construction companies handling federal projects in the Niger Delta region have threatened to back off road construction projects with a N230 billion budget, if a supplementary budget was not approved before the end of the year for the completion of the jobs.

Reynolds Construction Company Nigeria Limited (RCC), was paid to have been paid N5,684,881,518.18 out of N35.6 billion for the dualisation of 99 kilometre East-West Road (Section III) Port Harcourt from Eleme Junction to Eket in Rivers/Akwa Ibom states.

The contract worth N74,806,197,097.37 for the dualisation of 47 kilometre East-West Road project from Port Harcourt–Ahoada and Kaima-Ahoada as well as dualisation of 54 kilometre East-West Road from Warri–Kaiama (Section I and II) awarded to Setraco Nigeria Limited following the decision of Julius Berger to quit the region.

Gitto Construction Company got contract worth N26 billion for the dualisation of East West Road (Section IV) from Eket-Oron road, Akwa Ibom State.

Mr. Nwogu Olaka, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Niger Delta, explained in Abuja that the contractors were demanding supplementary budget worth N28 billion to ensure timely completion of the projects.
