Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State has approved the award of prototype block of the redevelopment of Oshodi Market.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Ganiu Johnson, spoke on Oshodi redevelopment plan yesterday at the budget consultative forum and overview of the year 2009 budget/2010 projections, at the state Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
Johnson made the disclosure while responding to questions on why the state government has delayed to implement the relocation and redevelopment plans of Oshodi market after traders were displaced early this year.
According to the special adviser, the governor has just awarded a prototype block of the redevelopment of the market that will accommodate various interest groups earlier displaced, adding that contractors had already moved to site to work out modalities for the eventual commencement of the project.
He assured that all the groups would be accommodated has government is doing everything possible to resettle the displaced traders.
On the partnership ofÂ Zhe Jiang Province with Lagos State, Gov Babatunde Fashol said when completed, it is expected to absorb the raw materials abundance in Lagos in various forms and turn them into finished goods for both local and international markets including China.
This came to fore yesterday when Governor Fashola received a Chinese delegation in his Alausa Office, led by the Governor of Zhe Jiang Province in China , Lu Zushan,
Fashola told the visiting governor that Lagos shares a lot in common with the Province of Xhe Jiang, which has one of the strongest economies in China, and Lagos being Nigeriaâ€™s commercialand financial hub, would like explore existing opportunities in transportation, cottage industries, agriculture and construction along with the Chinese partners.
Fashola therefore promised to reciprocate the visit by going to the Province of Xhe Jiang in order to look into areas where both state can further collaborate for their development.
Lu Zushan who led a group of technocrats and experts in different fields of investment, including trade, agriculture, transportation, construction among others spoke through an interpreter, saying he was in the state to seek further investment opportunities with the state.
The governor in his brief address commended Fashola administration for his developmental efforts to transform Lagos State into a megacity.
He listed fishing, textiles, construction, processing among others as area where both tates could partner.
