… upgrades family of four to millionaire status

It was a joy that knows no bounds last week, when four youngsters and siblings of an average family with a minimal income level, climbed down the lucky draws stage of Etisalat’s 9jillion regional game show, N2.2 million richer.

The youngsters, Kizito Egeonu, a medical student at the University of Jos, Judith Egeonu, a student of Banking and Finance and Gerald Egeonu a Chemistry student of the same University; and   Justina Egeonu, School of Nursing, Kano picked the huge amount in Etisalat’s One Naija Million Dollar Game Show  at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna.

The Egeonu's siblings celebrates their millionaire status with Chief Marketing Officer of Etisalat, Mr. Wael Ammar in Kaduna recently.

The regional game show, involved nine teams organized into three batches of four members each. At the end of the game, three teams won two million each while another three teams won one million naira each causing the telecommunications company to dole out a whopping N9 million in total to the first lucky winners.

However, the Game Show, according to Etisalat, was designed to generate 35 millionaires at the end, as part of the ongoing 3-in-1 9jillion promotion.
For the Egeonus, led by Kizito, it was surprising that a family that struggled to put the transport fare to the venue of the game show and other requirements together, became instant millionaire and so he wished the money would be used for one single purpose that would lift the fortunes of the family up. But that would not be before the payment of tithe as Christians and relevant taxes as patriotic Nigerian citizens.

“This is too good to believe, we never thought we could emerge winners in the game just like that. When I decided to enter for the promo, I took it as one of those promos where I could just try my luck and invited my other sibling as part of requirement for participation. I strained my pocket to send the text messages as the game required and made a lot of sacrifices but I think the reward is worth the sacrifice. We are so grateful to Etisalat for this opportunity, I will sure encourage my other family members and friends in school to participate in the promo”.

As if the family anticipated the good fortune that was to come, Kizito and his siblings had come to the Venue of the game show, clad in different designs of Glo insignia and colours in readiness to be the Etisalat ambassadors they eventually emerged.

However, they were not alone in the millionaire train. Another team of four comprising Kabiru Usmail, a civil servant;  Babatunde Coker, Businessman; Umar Salihu Abubarkar, Student of ABU; and Jume Fada Jawlli, student of Kano Polytechnic; also scooped a total of N2.2 million in the promo.
The highly excited group also expressed gratitude to Etisalat, describing it “the most innovative network in Nigeria”.

For Kabiru Usmail who led the group, “this is a life changing experience. This money will no doubt go a long way to affect our lives positively. All thanks to the best network” he added.

Presenting cheques to the winners, Wael Ammar, Chief Marketing Officer, Etisalat Nigeria, noted that the Regional Game Show is the second phase of the unique 9jillions promo,  the first part of which offers subscribers an opportunity to win 2 phones every hour of the day for 90 days. To date,  over 1,500 lucky customers have become proud owners of high quality phones courtesy of Etisalat.

According to him, “Although we have been rewarding our lucky customers with phones as part of the 9jillions promo, we are quite excited to commence the second phase of the 9jillions promo which is structured to ultimately lead to the $1 million dollar prize money which will be won by one very lucky customer. We are glad that our customers are being rewarded with cash prizes which will impact directly on their daily living.

According to him, the winning process also offers those who participated in the Win-a-Phone Competition but who didn’t win a phone a second chance opportunity through random pick of such participants for the grand finale of the Game Show. “Game Show participants who emerge through the Second Chance opportunity would be required to get three friends who are not on the Etisalat network to activate new easy starter or easy Cliq SIM cards and come along with the winner to play in the One 9ja Million Dollar Game Show either at the regional level or grand finale.”
