AHEAD of the Ekiti North rerun Senatorial election scheduled for August 15th, 2009, the National Leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) yesterday appointed the Speaker, House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole chairman, PDP Campaign Committee.
A statement by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Professor Rufai Ahmed Alkali in Abuja yesterday named the Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin as Vice Chairman with the PDP National Legal Adviser, Mr Olusola Oke, the National Youth leader, Otunba Muyiwa Collins, Dr. S. T. Lawal; Senator Sola Akinyede, Alhaji Oladipo Tajudeen as members while a former Deputy Governor of the State during Chief Ayo Fayoseâ€™s administration, Mrs. Olujimi Abiodun would serve as the Secretary. The 8-member Campaign Committee according to Alkali would be inaugurated on Wednesday 29th July, 2009.
It would be recalled that the Court of Appeal sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital had on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 upheld the decision of the Ekiti State Governorship and Legislative Houses Election Petition Tribunal, nullifying the election of Senator Ayo Arise of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Ekiti North Senatorial District.
In the judgement, Justice Jumai Anantu Sankey directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to within the next 90 days conduct a fresh election for the position.
The August 15th, 2009 rerun election will be yet another political battle between the PDP and the Action Congress (AC) with the PDP featuring Ayo Arise to fight it out with the AC candidate, Mr. Olubunmi Adetunmbi.
