By Gbenga Akanmu
THE Lagos State House of Assembly has set up an ad-hoc committee to review the mid-year performance of the state budget.

The committee which is chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Adefumilayo Tejuoso, was set up at plenary yesterday and is expected to report back to the House on the first day of plenary after recess which commences mid August.

Ministries, Departments and Government Agencies (MDAs) are expected to forward necessary documents on their performances during the first half of the year to the committee within the next two weeks, while the committee is expected to look at the reports and documents in three weeks.

On the importance of the mid-year review, Speaker Adeyemi Ikuforiji said the power over appropriation conferred on the House by the Constitution was about the greatest power of the legislature which must be taken seriously.

According to him, “this is the appropriate time to review the performances of the MDAs for the first half of the year 2009 as a new budget proposal for 2010 will soon be sent to the House by the Executive.”
