AS Guinness Plc celebrates 250 years of brewing Guinness stout, it has on the same hand picked Austin Okocha as her brand ambassador.


Guinness Nigeria announced the appointment of Okocha, former Nigerian International and Captain of the Super Eagles as a Greatness Ambassador for Guinness. The announcement which took place in Lagos was attended by Guinness adorers from the sports, music, entertainment, fashion and the media.

The announcement which was to mark the role of Okocha as Ambassador for Guinness, revealed that  he will feature in a new Guinness advertising campaign. The campaign will be unveiled in August to coincide with the start of the English Premier League season and the Guinness sponsorship of EPL broadcasts in Africa.

Okocha’s role in the 250th anniversary will also include taking part in some of the many special events planned to celebrate the event.

On picking Okocha, the company said, “Jay Jay Okocha is a huge icon in Nigeria and as a football star his name is known all around the world. He is a great figure to be associated with and truly reflects Greatness as well as inspiring it in others. There will be many opportunities for our loyal adorers to see the work we will be doing with Jay Jay in the coming months.

In particular, we look forward to working with him on Arthur Guinness Day later this year and with our Reach For Greatness Football activities as well as helping us to spread the responsible drinking message,” said Devlin Hainsworth, Managing Director, Guinness Nigeria.

He went on to say that 2009 will be a  remarkable year as Guinness thanks Guinness drinkers in Nigeria for their loyalty.  Mr. Hainsworth further said that Nigeria is Guinness number two biggest market globally and this is a great achievement, he said.”

Also today, the Guinness National Consumer Promotion (NCP) is launched, which is offering thousands of remarkable prizes for Guinness adorers in Nigeria simply by enjoying the distinctive taste of Guinness. 25 top prizes of N l million are on offer as well as 250 prizes of N50,000 cash and 250 prizes of a year’s supply of Guinness.
