2011: No automatic ticket for Orji— Nkire

By  Anayo Okoli

Umuahia—A MEMBER of the Board of Trustee (BOT) of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Chief Sam Nkire has said that there is no automatic ticket for Governor Theodore Orji of Abia state for the 2011 elections.

According to Nkire, all interested candidates for the office would be subjected to the party primaries, where the best candidate will emerge.

However, Nkire believes that Governor Orji may not have any problem  getting the ticket, even through the primaries because according to him, he has done well in the state to deserve the ticket.

He said the Governor’s work in the state so far will make him not “have much problem picking up his second term ticket for the 2011 governorship election”.

The BOT member noted that “even though PPA as a party does not promise automatic ticket”, he did not envisage any other candidate  defeating  Governor Orji at the governorship primaries of the party in 2011 for the state governorship ticket.

According to him, though the Governor “may not have fully met the expectations of the people due to the distractions he faced because of  the long-drawn battle at the electoral  tribunal, he is now ready to solve most of the social problems facing the state, including that of insecurity”.
