Robbers kill 4 vigilante, injure others in Kogi

LOKOJA — NO fewer than four members of a vigilante group, yesterday, lost their lives while others sustained bullets wounds during an exchange of gun fire with armed robbers in Omuo, an  outskirt town in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The bandits numbering about 10 were said to have mounted a barricade on the Kabba- Iyara- Omuo road for unsuspecting victims at about 2.30 am.

Vanguard sources said that the eight-man vigilante group, acting on a tip-off, were said to have courageously confronted the robbers on the highway but were unlucky to have been noticed by the robbers  who instantly opened fire on them killing four on the spot.

The bodies of the slain vigilantes have been deposited at the St. John’s Hospital Mortuary, Kabba while the injured are being treated at the Kabba General Hospital.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Onum Inalegwu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police,  when contacted, confirmed the incident.
