ABEOKUTA – THE Chairman of the Elders Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Chief Sule Onabiyi yesterday lamented that some new entrants who have become puppets in the hands of some leaders were the cause of the crisis within the party in the state.
Chief Onabiyi who spoke against the backdrop of the crisis over the issue of bond and statements that he was no longer Chairman of the Elders Council said he was being hounded because he supported the legislators barring financial institutions from giving any more loans to the state government.
He said, “I was inaugurated as Chairman of Ogun State Elders Council by Chief Tony Anenih Board of Trustee of PDP in Abeokuta well before those speaking and their sponsors joined the party and a thousand of these people and their puppeteers cannot undo what they are ignorant about.
“I stand by my position supporting Ogun House of Assembly Resolution requesting the state government to disclose the financial status, particularly the indebtedness of Ogun State before venturing to acquire more financial liabilities for the state.â€
Chief Onabiyi said taking the bond would not cripple the state, adding that there was enough resources from the Federation Account and Internally Generated Revenue to take care of the day to day running of government.
“Long term development must also be situated within the context of available and expected resources, taking into consideration the present level of financial exposure of the stateâ€.
