Osun AC suspends Ewenla over anti-party activities

Action Congress (AC) in Osun State yesterday suspended the party’s chairman of Odo-Otin local government area of the state, Chief B.O. Ewenla.

Odo-Otin is the local government of the state governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to a statement by the party’s Director of Research and Strategy, Mr Sunday Akere, Ewenla was accused of indecent and unholy romance with some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Odo – Otin local government and the state in general with instances of such meetings, dates and personalities.

Akere said Ewenla was found culpable after accusations of financial inducement, misappropriation and misapplication.

According to him, “Among other accusations leveled at the former Chairman was that he attended nocturnal and meetings with topmost leaders of the PDP, culminating in exchanges of gift and promises  and drag the name of the party in the mud  by  playing host to a PDP gubernatorial aspirant amidst drumming, singing and dancing while still claiming to be AC Chairman.”

He added that, “After a careful consideration of the report of the committee set up to investigate allegations of misconduct and acts capable of bringing the party to disrepute, the meeting of the party leadership decided to suspend Chief Ewenla from the Chairmanship position and membership of the party warning him to desist from parading himself as the Chairman with

immediate effect”.

He disclosed that his deputy Prince Iyiola Oyelere has since been asked to act as Party Chairman pending the election of a new Chairman.

Meanwhile, the AC in Osun State has applauded the position of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for declaring as illegal the system in which lawmakers collect cash for execution of constituency development projects from government at the various tiers of local, state or federal administration.

Reacting to statements credited to the Senate President and its spokesman Senators David Mark and Ayogu Eze which carpets lawmakers engaged in such conducts as breaking the law of the land, Osun AC in a press release signed by its Director of Research and Strategy Hon Sunday Akere said it is an affirmation of the position of his party when it warned Osun lawmakers to  forsake such illegal conduct being allegedly practiced in the state since 2003.
