WHO WE ARE
Vanguard Media Ltd. is a Nigeria owned company established in
1983 by Mr. Sam Amuka-Pemu (a renowned, veteran Journalist) with
three friends to carry on the business as proprietors, printers
and publishers of newspapers, journals, magazines, books and other
literary works and undertakings.
The company commenced operation in 1984 and flagged off its first
newspaper, a 32 (thirty two) page weekly – SUNDAY VANGUARD
on June 9, 1984. It went daily on October 15, 1984.
Today the company has in its stable, WEEKEND VANGUARD and the
DAILY VANGUARD.
The company operates a network 40 stations nation wide with heavy
presence in Abuja, the Federal Capital of Nigeria and most State
Capitals.

In pursuit of its sole aim and objective to see a better life
for the people of Nigeria, the paper organized a public lecture
in 1995 with the topic: Crisis and Reconstruction of the Nigerian
Economy by Prof. Bade Onimode. By 1996, another lecture was held
with the topic: Understanding the Nigerian Economy and Polity
in the 20th Century delivered by the renowned historian, Dr Yusufu
Bala Usman.
In order for a broader perspective to be achieved, another lecture
was organized on ‘‘Africa and Global Competitiveness
in the next Millennium (i.e. 21st century in which we are now.)
This lecture was delivered by a Ghanaian Professor, Dr. Kwesi
Bothwey, Director, Africa Programs & Research, and Harvard
Institution for International Development, Cambridge, USA.
All these, at the expense of this media outfit in addition to
several others on Human Right issues, media issues, prison reforms
and other various philanthropic engagements.’’
