A statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Rita Inoma Abbey said the police recovered various machines used for the crime.

Also recovered during the raid on his house at Elele Alimini, Emohua Local Government Area of the state were fake Naira notes and foreign currencies of various denominations. It continued that the suspect would soon be arraigned in court.  

In a related development, people of Asarama community in Rivers State say it is not true that the area serves as hideout for criminals and militants.

Debunking a publication in a local newspaper which alleged that the Vice Chancellor of the state university of science and technology, Prof. B. B. Fakae was taken to a militant camp in the community after his abduction about a month ago, the community said there was no iota truth in the publication.

It would be recalled that the VC was taken hostage sometime last month. And later released after some days in the hands of his kidnappers. In a strongly worded statement signed by Chiefs Otugot Awoh, Moses Emimowa Jiawaireakong, Promise Mborh and nine others they said the report was malicious and intended to rubbish the good name of the community. They said the report was not the first negative story the local tabloid would be doing on the community.

While calling on the management of the paper to tender unreserved apology to the community for three of its stories with the captions:” Asarama: a community bedridden by her sons, kidnap off UST VC – the men, their sponsors and Andoni gang leader kills orphan”, they said the community would not in any way indulge in acts that would contrast with the effort of the state and federal government to find lasting peace in the region.

“No son of Asarama has been identified with the ignoble act of kidnapping of Prof Barineme Fakae, the Vice Chancellor of the Rivers state University of Science and Technology, nor was he ever brought by any gang of kidnappers to any cult camp in Asarama community, as there is no such camp on any part of Asarama community”

“It is against the above background that we demand an unreserved apology from the publishers of the … to our community for the gratuitous embarrassment which its brand of journalism has caused us, and which apology should be given equal prominence and publicity as the offensive publications under reference.”
