Itire-Okota link bridge: Project at 48% completion stage —Lagos govt

Lagos State Government has given assurance that the on going work at the Itire-Ijesha and Okota link bridge road project along Apapa-Oshodi Expressway will be completed by July-September 2009.
The Special Adviser to the governor on Works and Infrastructure Engr. Ganiyu Johnson who stated this during a project inspection to the on-going works at the site, expressed the state government’s strong commitment towards the provision of an enduring modern day infrastructural facilities that will improve the economic well being of its citizenry as well as the mega city status of the state.
The Special Adviser expressed satisfaction at the level of progress made so far, both on the road works and the bridge project which he said was at over 35 per cent and 48 per cent completion stages.
An on the spot assessment of the project revealed that pilling works on the bridge works is over 48 per cent completion stage while pre-casting of pre-stressed beams are also at a very advanced stage.
Similarly, pilling works and construction of piers, capping of beams and lunching of the respective beams are all in progress.
The 447km dual Carriage way road and bridge project upon completion, is expected to liberate the entire residents of Ijegun, Igando, Ikotun, Abaranje, Isolo, Ejigbo , Jakande, Okota, etc. from the over one decade of harrowing traffic gridlock that has slowed down the economy of these areas over the years.
According to him, the project is also expected to open up this axis to increased economic activities and further raise the standard of living of the people within the benefiting communities.
It is expected to link the Western part of the state with the Eastern part of Itire, Ijesha, Mushin , Aguda, Lawanson, Yaba which over the years has been a nightmare for the people of these areas to easily assess only through the Isolo Bridge.
