THE National Universities Commission (NUC), has approved 83 of the 88 undergraduate courses in the University of Ibadan (UI), just as the institution produced 63 first class graduates. The institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olufemi Bamiro, said these at the take-off of events marking the 60th Founder's Day yesterday.
The number of 2007/2008 graduates is 5,701. The remaining five courses, the don noted, had interim accreditation status, adding that the institution would not rest on its oars to ensure that it maintained the leadership on the provision of quality university education. At the start of the ceremony yesterday, the institution graduated 1,615 students who bagged degrees in chosen courses. For first class, Faculty of Science produced 19; Technology and Agriculture and Forestry nine each; Arts, five; Institute of Education, eight while Social Sciences, Education, Law and Distance Learning produced four, three and one respectively. A graduate from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mr. Itiola Joshua, was the centre of attraction as he won 15 awards. Bamiro urged the graduates to use their certificates as springboard to better opportunities. |
