NHIS introduces enrolee smart ID card |

To make the accessibility of the National Insurance Health Scheme (NHIS) easy for the enrolee, the scheme has commenced the migration of enrolee ID card to the smart card with chip.
The smart card, which will in no distant time, be launched is expected to carry the enrolee medical records and other vital information. Presenting the new ID Card in Abuja, Executive Secretary of the Scheme, Dr. Dogo Mohammed, said the significant step taken by the management of the scheme, is aimed at introducing general multi-purpose card in the country. He said the NHIS has been on public private partnership to contract out the registration of the enrolee and as a result the production of 1.2 million cards was awarded to a private company with a six months completion period. His words: “In addition, NHIS has now commenced a gradual migration of enrollee ID card to Smart Card with a chip. This is expected, in a not too distant future, to carry enrolee medical records and other vital information. This again is a significant step in the planned introduction of general multi-purpose card in the country”. He called attention of providers, enrolees and general public to the introduction of the new ID card and urged them to recognise the card upon presentation in their facilities. |
