Westerhof thumbs up for Saraki, plans another tour

Clemens Westerhof returned to the country to celebrate his Europe tour with the Kwara Academy.After some defeats, the team recorded victory when it mattered most.

Ajax of Amsterdam are reputed for their academy which is rated the best in Europe if not in the world. This is responsible for the young stars they produce every year, making them a haven for clubs to shop for players.
Kwara Academy beat them 2-1 in a friendly that rounded off their training tour of Holland and Germany. But what gladdens Westerhof most is the prospect of eight of the players.
“There are strong possibilities that four of the players will move to England and four to Spain. Scouts from clubs saw them and they are talking to us,” Westerhof said with excitement.
The next plan of Westerhof is to go on another tour of Spain and South Africa with the team.“It would be great to go to these places but first we have to thank the Governor, Bukola Saraki for all he has been doing to develop football in Nigeria.
We have to thank Kwara people too for their great support. When these kids play against their European counterparts and get used to it, it will make it easier for them to move to Europe to develop further professionally and get contracts. That’s the essence of the youth academies like ours in Kwara,” Westerhof said.
Kashimawo Laloko with his Pepsi Academy has been behind many youth players who have moved to Europe from Nigeria. Laloko maintains Nigerian football would be better with more academies. He is in the same school of thought with Kojo Williams who midwifed the Kwara Academy.
