The year is fast moving to a close. We are in October, and any adult knows that when you get to October, you can start preparing for Christmas. This is the last quarter of the great year 2008.
By now you know how well or how badly you did. If it was a good year for you, by now you know. If it was just fair, you know. If you did not do well at all, you know.
Still, I am not saying close shop for the year. No matter how well or how badly you have done this year, there is still room to do better. I am not referring only to your finances now. I really do want to look into everything that pertains to your life.
Yes! Your financial standing, your relationships, your spiritual growth, your general attitude and character, your health and livelihood, your appearance, (are you looking better?). I am talking about everything that has to with your life. You can always do better.
There is a place for improvement. We all know that life is a process. Always an on-going process. No matter what, life never stops. You may stop. But life never stops.
As we are moving to the close of this year, no matter where we are, no matter where we stand, I advice that we should strive for excellence and perfection. There is a right way of doing things and a wrong way of doing things.
Most of us know this, but still do things any how. If you do things the right way, there is an expected result. More often than not, when you do things their right way, you end up with appropriate results. You must strive towards excellence.
With regards to whatever job or work you are doing, strive towards doing it right. Your job will always speak for you. If it is because you know someone in authority that you are getting jobs or you got that job, take it, and do it like your life depends on it and have a good rapport with everyone.
Let people know that you stand for quality and perfection, and your job will advertise you. You will be in that administration or organization even when that person who brought you in leaves.
Reminds me of the story of these two women. They were both very close to the CEO of this very great organization, and everyone knew it. None of the staff dared to take lightly anything that concerned these two ladies.
They all had seen two people go on suspension because they delayed their files. You see one of the women was proud, heady and just too full of herself because she knew the CEO. She was so arrogant, and didn’t even answer when people greeted her.
She was so condescending. She told people off anyhow, and you know, all the staff resented it, but they could only grumble secretly for fear of loosing their jobs. These two women were getting big contracts from the company.
The nice lady would do her job very well, use high quality materials, finish in good time, and still do ‘PR’. (At this point I must let every businesswoman know that PR is not bribe. You are somewhere, you get a job, you made some money, some people assisted you in getting the job done, it is always good to bless them in some way.
Spread some of your blessings around. Say ‘Thank you’ Some people are just too stingy and under the guise of religion refuse to bless anyone. A bribe is when someone says unless you give me money, I wont do this or that.
PR is, they helped you out, or they were around to make it happen, you come back later with a gift or envelope to say ‘Thank-you, in appreciation. I appreciate your assistance’).
The other arrogant woman used low quality materials, did the job anyhow, and would shout at anyone who dared say a word.
The good woman won the hearts of everyone, and before too long they began to see that she stood for good quality jobs, delivered to time. When they had some problems with the boss at work, they went to her and she would always intervene, and talk to the boss on their behalf and that would be the end of the matter.
But ‘Miss Arrogance’ would insult anyone at random, and no one could approach her. Suddenly, there was a reshuffle. The CEO had to resign suddenly, and his subordinate took his place. The first contractor to be kicked out was ‘ Miss Arrogant’.
Today the other lady, I call ‘Miss Excellence’, still works with them. Infact she is one of the biggest contractors they have. They even introduced her to other companies, and she is doing very well.
The lesson for today is that whatever you find to do, do it well. If you do things right, more often than not, even changes in situations and circumstances cannot take away the great skills you have acquired.
You can become whatever you desire to become if you put your mind to it. Do the right thing at the right time.
Excellence will always see you through. Try never to cut corners. It might cost you more, but you can’t settle for less. Excellence leads to promotion.
Those good things that you are already doing, keep at it. Do not be discouraged. If you hold on to your integrity, your integrity will see you through.
Whatever you are doing, you must be disciplined, you must keep to time, you must be nice, you must aspire to be the best at whatever you are doing. Best of luck.
