AWKA—GOVERNOR Peter Obi of Anambra State has said that the state’s 2009 budget will provide the necessary leverage for the execution of more programmes and projects in the most cost-effective and efficient manner.

Speaking at the budget forum organized by the state Ministry of Finance and Budget, in collaboration with Ministry of Economic Planning and Development in Awka, Obi explained that the plan was to consolidate on the achievements recorded through comprehensive and simultaneous development of all sectors towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals in a record time.

He urged the participants to make useful input in programmes and projects in core sectors which, if faithfully implanted, would achieve the developmental objectives in the critical areas, as well as lead to the realization of projects and programmes that could help generate wealth and employment so as to reduce poverty.

According to him, the budget would also be tailored towards increasing the tempo of basic infrastructure, social and economic amenities development and reassured of government’s commitment to holistic development of the state.

He was also happy with the economic growth in the state, expalaining that the increase in bank branches by one hundred and forty per cent in the last two years in Anambra was a testimony that businesses were picking up gradually.
