THE face-off between the councillors of Ika South local government council in Delta state and the embattled Local Education Authority (LEA) Secretary, Mr. Vincent Anumele has taken a new turn following an indefinite suspension slammed on him for failing to come before them to explain rising wage bills of primary school teachers in the area.
But reacting sharply to the suspension order slammed on the Secretary, which was taken during the sitting of the legislative arm of the council, the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Chief Nkem Okwuofu declared the order as null and void, saying that “they (councillors) don’t have powers to do so”. Prior to the suspension, the councillors had earlier passed a resolution ordering the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Agbor to arrest him (Anumele). The motion for the suspension was moved by the Majority Leader of the House, Mr. Marvin Nwagbuogwu and seconded by the Deputy Leader, Mr. Fidelis Igunbor and unanimously passed. Okwuofu told Vanguard on phone yesterday when contacted that “the law setting up SUBEB is very clear, their decision to suspend my LEA Secretary is null and void. and besides, we (SUBEB) have not found him wanting in the matter he is being accused of”.
