Physical activity should never be ignored as part of a healthy lifestyle. Being physically active is all about engaging in an activity that you enjoy; which makes you sweat and conditions your heart. It refreshes your body and clears it of toxins and cellular garbage, sharpening your mind and giving you strength and energy.
Just like a car, your body was designed to move. If you pack a car in your garage for long without driving it, you don’t expect to get immediate response the day you decide to drive the car; if you don’t drive it, it will break down. It was meant to run.
Your body was designed to be positively dynamic; it needs water, rest, food and exercise to run smoothly. (b) It helps reduce cholesterol levels: In tests conducted, people who exercise for three 10 minute– sessions a day showed greater improvement in their blood cholesterol levels.
(c) Regular exercise reduces blood pressure: Studies show that regular exercise reduces blood pressure. However, if you are concerned about your blood pressure or do not know your blood pressure level, you must check with your doctor before committing to any exercise (not all exercises are suitable for everybody).
(d) Exercise prevents cancer: Studies have shown that approximately one–third of cancer deaths could be linked to diet and sedentary lifestyles. Simple movements and exercise decrease the risk of certain cancers such as breast, colon, and possibly prostate cancers.
A study published in “The Journal of the American Medical Association” showed that women who engaged in the equivalent of brisk walking for about one or two hours per week decreased their risk of breast cancer by 18 percent compared with inactive women.
