I have heard people talk of Dreams — so long as one is born into mother Earth, one must have dreams — some dreams drive and strive in the positive angle to life, how human life can be uplifted, how you can make your neighbour live a life of joy and fulfillment, how one can enhance humanity, while other Dreams move in the negative and destructive side of history.
What therefore is a dream? According to the advanced learners dictionary, a dream is defined as “ a series of images, events and feelings that happen in your mind while you are sleep.
It equally defined a dream as — a wish to have or be something especially one that seems difficult to achieve. Dream is equally defined as a state of mind or a situation in which things do not seem real or part of normal life.
The decisions that one takes in life to realize his or her dreams are important and that is why, when a man’s dream becomes impossible to fulfill, there are things not in the right places.
Daar Satellite dream has come to reality for Raymond Dokpesi, against this background, it is my candid opinion that this is the time for Nigerians to celebrate with the High Chief for a number of reasons among which is the fact that The Daar Satellite Dream which has been uppermost in his heart has come to fruition.
Needless for Chief Dokpesi to sit down to tell Nigerians the huddles and obstacles he must have gone through to have all the successes he has recorded so far as his story is incontrovertibly the story of a man who emerged from a humble background, passed through series of trials and storms of life, and later became one of the brightest stars in Africa’s firmament of electronic media practice.
The second reason why Nigerians should celebrate with Dokpesi is that he has blazed the trail through Africa Independent Television as the first Electronic media with the largest exportation of Nigerian and African values to the rest of the world, the Thematic trust of AIT, being Afro centric in nature. With the successes Africa Independent Television has recorded, the International Community has realized that the continent of Africa is fast catching up with their vast information technology and the principle of globalization which has become an issue in international communication.
The Daar Satellite is a podium for the contextual flow of ideas, information dissemination, as well as a medium for content analysis, appraisal of African values, in terms of language, culture and Africa’s technological growth. It is a medium to bridge the digital divide.
The Daar Satellite story is a compendium for Nigerians, Africans and the blacks in the diaspora. Africans will be talking, they will be well represented and to a larger extent, the Daar syndrome has continually assisted in eroding and allaying Africans impoverished communication system as they can now be seen and also be properly heard. There will be no more misrepresentation of Africa, which has often characterized the international press, feeding their people with garbages of draught, famine, disease and absolute poverty.
The Daar Satellite is a tool for international communication. The world will now have a medium to access the vast nature of Africa’s cultural values and practices.
Daar Satellite will help fight racism, segregation, inequality, despondence from international community, greed, and poor representation.
The blacks in the Diaspora and Africans abroad now have a voice. The black man can be with his white friend either at home, in his work place or business environment and should conveniently tune to Daar Satellite, to watch the news channel, they will now be crazy to see our news, just as we are crazy about Cable Network News (CNN), Sky News, and the BBC News.
It is against this background that I urge Nigerians to play some participatory role to enable Daar Satellite television grow. Dokpesi has played a dynamic role in building our cultural values.
Most essentially Nigerians should play some dynamic role for the continual sustenance of the Daar Satellite platform. The government and corporate bodies should begin to create road maps of how they can continue to sustain the Daar Satellite medium which is a novel idea in the African soil.
Dokpesi has studied the American broadcasting system, according to Dokpesi
“In the U.S.A., one of the conditions to earn a radio or television licence to operate is that, you the owner will participate in the management that runs it because the decision you will take, an ordinary manager will not take.
I can tell you for sure, you are supposed to take some crazy decisions and risk to be able to make progress in this field”.
1 have watched, I have equally observed and seen clearly that Dokpesi has taken some decisions which him alone can take. I was watching the television and the person talking at that point in time was chief Dokpesi, and somebody muttered ‘’ Dokpesi has gone haywire with television business’‘
I keep asking him the driving force behind these decisions, inspite of the turbulent nature of the economic system, he has forged on, and he has continued to make the country proud. I quote Dokpesi:
“I have to put my hands into places I aught not to. My children school fees and my own life savings. I have to continually deep my hands into them to make AIT to survive, to do any kind of menial job and any money that comes into my hands goes into broadcasting and I have no choice”
We say kudos to you, Ezomo of Wepa Uwanno Kingdom, a great nationalist, you have paid the price to realize a dream which turned out to be Nigeria and Africa’s dream, Daar Satellite will bring that lost glory to Nigeria, as we noted, the history of electronic broadcasting started in the Nigeria soil 50 years ago, we celebrate with Dokpesi for making Nigeria, Africa and the blacks in the Diaspora proud. Hurray! Daar Satellite is born, embrace it.
