Organisers of the maiden edition of the Inspector General of Police Cup have fixed November 4th as the kickoff date aof the competition, which is gathering momentum as the Management Committee have also concluded plans to unveil a website for the event.

As the zero hour approaches swiftly towards the kick off of the first Inspector General of Police Cup (IG Cup), the management committee said no stone would be left unturned as they plan to see through a successful organisation of the tournament, which is the first of its kind in Nigeria for the Mike Okiro Cup.
According to Head of the publicity arm of the management committee, Austin Mgbolu, the competition would be kicked off in Benin city, Edo State, by the Inspector General of Police himself.
‘The twelve Zonal commands including Force Headquarters will participate in the money-spinning events, whose finals is expected to take place in Kano City on November 29th, 2008. The semi-finals and finals will be aired live on Super Sports and all major television networks in Nigeria’, said Mgbolu, who added that a special website for the tournament would be made public in a week’s time.
‘The website shall contain detailed information about the event and it is hoped that it would make for easy follower-ship of what we are planning to do with this tournament’, Mgbolu said.
He added that the committee had embarked on aggressive marketing drive to make the event a world class championship. The former Spokesman of the Nigeria Football Association also said special souvenirs were among some other interesting things that the committee were planning to put out for sale.
‘The theme of the event is score to kick out crime. Moreover, merchandise with the logo and mascot will go on sale soon. The items include bags, fez caps, t-shirts, bowler hats and roll-banners’, said Mgbolu. The Cup for the tournament was donated by Padmozi boss, Mike Itemuagbor, which he also backed up with cash reward.
