THE Agadagba of Egbema Kingdom, Warri North local government, Delta State, HRM G. O. E. Tiemo JP, Bini Pere III, has advised the Federal Government to separate the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from the Niger Delta Ministry, insisting that both bodies should operate independently, noting the law that established the NDDC is completely different from the ministry.
The royal father pointed out that the NDDC was not established by law to work under any ministry as proposed by the Federal Government; the ministry must work separately, while the NDDC as well work separately as an entity of its own, and must not be made a commission or board under the ministry.
If the Federal Government insists that the NDDC must be under the ministry, then it shows it is not sincere in the creation of the ministry and the development of the long neglected Niger Deltans.
He said what the Niger Deltans wanted was resource control and not a ministry, but since it has been created, it must focus on the oil communities that have not smelt any development and same people agitating for equal development.
The traditional ruler decried the non-presence of Federal Government’s roads and bridges linking the Ijaw oil bearing communities.
Lamenting that despite the bulk oil production in the Ijaw oil communities there is no single Federal Government hospital in any of the Ijaw oil communities.
He urged the Federal Government to appoint people who are familiar with the problems of the oil communities and that such ministers must possessed the competency and must come from an oil bearing communities.
“ the proposed ministers to the Niger Delta Ministry must have their offices in the creeks of the region to be able to meet with the challenges of the problems facing the remote oil communities and proffer solutions to the crisis in the region.” he said.
