BARING last minute changes, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, said yesterday, that the long awaited Ministerial list to be released by President Umaru Yar’Adua would be submitted to the Senate this week for ratification.
This, according to him, would douse the tension the cabinet reshuffle has caused especially among the present serving ministers. Alhaji Ahmed who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Yussuf Addy, in Abuja yesterday during an exclusive chat with Vanguard said, “as I speak to you now, all consultations have been finalised and the list is ready with Mr. President. From the instructions given to this office from the Presidency, and on good authority, all things being equal, it is certain that the Ministerial list will be submitted this week to the Senate for ratification." Explaining why the list was being delayed, he said, there have been serious and incriminating security reports on some of the nominees and that President Yar’Adua took enough time to personally scrutinize and ascertain the qualities of all the nominees, adding that the list could have gone to the Senate last week but Mr. President has to shift it with that of the Ambassadorial list to give him time to clarify on the negative reports against some nominees. The expected changes as appended on the list, he added, are actually not in large scale contrary to expectations as the president maintained he is comfortable with some of the ministers. "President Yar’Adua is one man who would not want his ministerial list to be scuffled or rejected at the Senate, so he has to personally give his assertions and clean bills on each of them before sending it so that, all those sent will scale through the Senate screening”, he said. In a related development, the Secretary to the Federal Government , Alhaji Yayale Ahmed reassured Nigerians of his commitment to serve with honesty and transparency to the benefit of all Nigerians, without preference to tribe or state . He urged all Civil Savants to redouble their effort in the conceptualization and implementations of governments programmes and projects . Speaking at the inauguration of the steering committee for Quick Wins NDGs Project in Abuja, Alhaji Yayale stated "rather than become a tribal stock, I will be fair to all Nigerians. However, there is need for collaborations with relevant agencies to fast-tract the realization of the Millennium Development Goals projects of this administrations, especially in the areas like Health, Education, Agriculture and water sector", Yayale stated. Giving further remarks , The SGF maintained that the ‘ QUICKWIN ’ Project will be funded from the debt relieve gains and will spread over 40,000 locations across the Senatorial and Federal Constituencies in the country within the overview on public expenditure on NEEDS framework. |
