LAW students of Delta State origin at the Nigerian Law School have called for upward review of the financial assistance they receive from the state government from the present N30,000 to N500,000 in view of the additional financial burden arising from their study there.
Coordinator of Delta State Law Students Universities across the country, Mr. Kelly Ogbe in a press statement noted that the N30,000 presently enjoyed from the state government was no longer adequate. Part of the statement reads: “Upward review of the N30,000 financial assistance that has long being approved by the state government. Since this amount is no longer realistic with the high cost of fees at the Nigeria law school. “The state should borrow a leave from her sister state, Bayelsa and River states which pay as much as N400,000 to their students. “The Nigeria law school have tag its fees for the 2008/09 October session for N220,000. In addition to this fees, students are also advised strongly to buy lap-top for ease of studies which cost as much as N100,000. “Students still need as much as N300,000 to take care of their books, feeding, wardrobe allowance and personal effect throughout the one year programme. Thus a student needs as much as half a million N500,000 to successfully undergo his/her studies at the Nigeria law school.”
*The upward review should be backdated to accommodate the last set of students who just passed out of the Nigeria law school, since they were made to face the same financial predicament which this 2008/2009 set is now undergoing. |
