President of God’s Kingdom Society, GKS, Brother Oseghale Emmanuel Aighalua has enjoined Nigerians to embrace the tenets of the spiritual freedom brought by Jesus Christ in order to maximize her potentials and achieve her dream of being among the advanced countries of the world by the year 2020.
In a statement issued in Salem City, Warri, the GKS president who has since left for Ghana for this year's Freedom Day in that West African country, stated that the “political freedom which Nigeria celebrates in October would only have true meaning when the people internalize the moral principles Jesus Christ taught so as to develop the right attitude that would propel the nation to greatness.”
Brother Aighalua who spoke in the run-up to the Freedom Day celebrations of the GKS which runs throughout the month of October stated that these virtues which Jesus Christ taught include faith, fear of God, honesty, truthfulness, patience, humility, tolerance, forgiveness, love for one another, among others.
He disclosed that the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ by the church would hold in all Sundays in October in branches of the church in Nigeria, as well as in London and Manchester (in the UK), in Canada, Kenya, Liberia, Ghana and also corrected insinuations that the birth of Christ should not be marked by way of celebration because Christ did not give any such command.
According to him, “the birth of Jesus Christ is of immeasurable importance as it inaugurated a new era in the history of mankind. The freedom of Christ frees us from ignorance, superstition, sickness and death,” he said, adding: “It is because many people in the world are still in bondage spiritually, that they are bedeviled by such vices as deceit, bribery and corruption, materialism, robbery with violence, assassinations, thuggery, inter-ethnic feuds and so on.”
It was for the purpose of correcting these vices so that the nation could know and enjoy true freedom that the president’s address for this year’s celebration is entitled Seeking the interest of others. The GKS commemorates the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ in the month of October every year.
The occasion is spread through all the Sundays in October and is marked by divine services, songs and dances to the glory of God. Brother Aighalua said that apart from doing honour to God, the Freedom Day occasion, affords the church the opportunity to draw the people’s attention to the fact that Christ was born in October and not in December.
The programme for the anniversary shows that among the officiants at the 35 centres for the Freedom Day in Nigeria, are the president who will conduct the Divine Services at Sapele, Accra, Ghana, Calabar and Warri while the vice-president, Brother Samuel Nwaeke will be chairing the occasions at Asaba, London and Manchester.
