“To maintain a healthy physique, you must nourish your body with high-quality food, especially Lean protein complex carbohydrates and essential oil”
Fruits
Eating evenly throughout the day is not the only important factor in keeping your metabolism burning high, and your body working well; every meal (and healthy snacks) should include carbohydrate, protein and essential fat.
Understand that carbohydrates are 100 percent pure energy – fuel for the body to burn; the question is, WHAT TYPE OF FUEL ARE YOU BUYING OR USING? Proteins are the building blocks for the body, but if no carbohydrates are available, the body will burn proteins.
ESSENTIAL OIL? They are required for the body to run properly; essential fatty acids accelerate fat burning. In the presence of essential fatty acids, cells burn greater amounts of oxygen. The more oxygen carried to the cells, the faster body fat is burned. NOT EVERY OIL is ESSENTIAL, so be careful to choose oils like olive, flaxseed, canola and fish oils.
The ideal content of your plate should be – vegetables ½ plate (vegetables can be made with olive oil or canola oil but not dripping in palm oil, especially for adults with health issues or if already suffering from obesity. Your sauce or stew could also be made with one of the essential oils; but know that your main meal without vegetables is not complete.
1/3 of your plate should be proteins i.e. lean chicken or egg whites, or fish, or lean beef or some beans. 1/3 should be carbohydrate i.e. whole grains, organic cereals, sweet potatoes, brown rice, wheat or brown flour bread, organic pasta or boiled yam.
Carbohydrate should be eaten with protein to protect it from being wasted as a less efficient fuel sauce. You need the protein for vital building functions, boosting the metabolism, building body muscle, keeping body fluid in balance, healing and fighting infections, and making beautiful skin, hair and nails. Protein is the new you!
You cannot be healthy without eating protein properly. But, frankly, it is so potent that you don’t need much of it.
The body does not store protein, so it must be replenished frequently throughout the day, everyday of your life; without it, your body isn’t building itself up. And without carbohydrates your body is burning protein as fuel; there need to be a balance.
Never believe anybody who tells you not to eat carbohydrate or that carbohydrate makes you fat, it is when you eat the wrong type of carbohydrate especially refined carbohydrate, that you end up being fat. When carbohydrate, especially the complex one, is taken in excess and not used by the body, it ends up as fat. Always remember that UNUSED FUEL IS STORED AS FAT.
When the wrong type of carbohydrate is taken, there is always a disaster. Imagine fueling a car that uses diesel with petrol or putting petrol in a cooking stove that uses kerosene, the outcome is always predictable – disaster. Same thing happens to the body; and most times, that disaster comes in form of obesity, cancer, high cholesterol, etc.
BOTTOM LINE: The type of fuel (carbohydrate) you give your body matters a lot. CARBOHYDRATES BURN, PROTEINS BUILD AND ESSENTIAL FATS PREVENT. CARBOHYDRATES CONFUSION:
When carbohydrate is mentioned, what most people think about is white rice, white bread, excess cassava (garri) yes, these are carbs, but they are the bad refined complex carbs that make us fat; they are the BAD GUYS. The Good GUYS are the Brown organic carbs, not bleached, e.g. brown flour as against bleached white flour and brown rice as against white rice. Yam is a good complex carbohydrate but not in pounded form. BOTTOM LINE:
The sauce and form of your carbohydrate is very important; are you taking in REAL CARBS or FAKE CARBS?
Simple carbohydrate (fruits and non starchy vegetables) are also very good. They contain a wealth of fiber, vitamins and minerals and are digested and released into the system as energy much more quickly than the complex type. Complex carbs in their unrefined, organic state are a source of much – needed fiber, they contain high quantities of vital nutrients for our well-being.
An eating plan high in fiber and complex carbohydrate is your nest bet for living long and well. Contrary to what most people think, good carbs are low in calories. It is not the sweet potatoes or whole grain bread that makes us fat, it is the heavy sauce or stew made with the wrong oil that makes us fat. It is the excess butter on the bread that makes us fat, it is the bad oil used in frying the chicken that makes it bad to eat.
Pastries, cakes, sweets, doughnuts, chin-chin, plantain chips and sodas are all fake guys that make us sick and fat. Everyday of eating these refined carbs is a gradual enrolment into the diabetics and obesity club.
AND FATS? Know that it is fat that makes us fat. If you are not taking in the good guys (olive oil, fish oil, canola oil, flaxseed oil) you must surely be taking in the bad guys, and accumulation of these will ultimately clog our arteries and make our bodies high in toxins.
BOTTOM LINE: Always look out for the good guys and eat them more, always remember that the less processed food you eat, the better for your health. It is better to EAT NUTRITIONALLY and NOT EMOTIONALLY.

Testimonials Saw an article in the Vanguard newspaper one Sunday on how to achieve a flat tummy. I instantly thought that it was one of those stories again, but I felt that there was, at least, no harm in trying, as I had tried so many different weight loss programs that never worked in the past. So I called the number in the newspaper and I spoke to Mrs. Emiko, who told me about the 7days detox program.
I started the detox on Saturday, 13th Sept, 2008 weighing 95kg and I must say, the first 2 days were quite difficult for me, as it took a lot of self discipline to sustain it. From the 3rd day it was a lot easier and I started enjoying it . I felt smarter and fitter as the pains I normally had in my joints had disappeared.
The night of Friday 19th of Sept is one I would never forget in a long time. I had a good flush in the toilet, I was very amazed at the amount of waste in my body after all the cleansing of the last 6 days. That day, my weight had dropped to 85kg, meaning that I had lost 10kg in 7 days . My fat, big tummy had also flattened! I now wear all my fitted clothes again.
I still hope to lose more weight with the eating plan from body perfect which I have vowed to follow religiously.
I thank Mrs. Kathy Emiko for all the support and encouragement, through her phone calls through the program, which kept me going. •T.U, General Studies Dept University of Benin
