Rep decries effects of Edo PDP crisis on LGs

A member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Ifaluyi Isibor has warned of the negative consequences of the lingering crisis of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, which he said has already grinded the activities of some Local Government Areas in the state to a halt.
He told Vanguard in Abuja, yesterday, that elected officials of some of the councils have been split along the lines of the rift between the state governor, Professor Oserhiemen Osunbor and former chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih leading to the suspension of those considered the opponents of the governor.
Citing the case of Egor Local Government in his Egor/Ikpoba–Okha Federal constituency, he pointed out that apart from the suspension of the duly elected officials, many party supporters have been clamped into jail as the conflict worsened in the area.
He regretted that instead of taking steps to resolve the crisis, the governor appeared to be fanning it by creating divisions among officials of the councils by selecting apparent loyalists to replace the suspended officials who were perceived to belong to other political camps.
According to him, “it is very clear that there is a very big problem in Edo State particularly Egor Local Government. It will be important for the governor to as a matter of urgency appraise what is currently going on there now especially in Egor and ensure that peace returns.
“A situation where we are having barrage of problems in local governments added to the emergence of various factions for the past two months is worrying because it is affecting the people who are part of our constituents.
We should be able to pick up issues when they arise and settle them as one family and move ahead. “A situation where we are having more divisions within ourselves no matter which faction we claim to be winning, is not the spirit of togetherness or the spirit of democracy.
It is definitely slowing down the development of our local governments and creating more apprehension in the minds of the people and set them against each other,” he said.
