•Why national coaches ignore local players • Coaching job easier at national team than at clubs
ERSTWHILE Super Eagles Coach, Augustine Eguavoen has confessed to the tough times he is facing in the local league after a robust career in the national team as assistant coach and Super Eagles and Black Leopards Coach in South Africa.

Eguavoen who is in charge of Enyimba International of Aba and has the arduous task of leading them to victory in the second leg, semi final of CAF Champions League in Egypt after a barren draw confessed that life in the national team was a merry go round compared to the club level.
“My brother, it is tough out here”, Eguavoen using bare hands to clear beads of sweat that were dropping freely from his forehead said at the Aba Township Stadium. “I confess, I respect all coaches who are working in the League. It is not as easy as many think”, the coach still shocked at the level of work he does to tinker the players said.
“It is easier at the national level because all the players who play there are professionals. They know the rudiments of the game and come for little assistance”, he said.
The former Eagles skipper said that he was shocked at the level of deterioration at the club level that they have to teach the basics of even trapping and controlling ball. “There is nothing that you don’t teach players in the league. You teach them even how to throw.
It is amazing and it has really taken a toll on me”, Eguavoen said, noting that “I now know better why many coaches don’t invite local players to the national team.
It is clearer to me why many coaches ignore local players. There is no time for teaching such elementary aspect of football at the national level. That is why coaches ignore the local players. Things are so tough and rough out here”, he lamented.
Still sweating from the tension pilled on his team by Egyptian giants, Al Ahly in their goalless outing, Eguavoen said that it would be foolhardy to write off Enyimba for the second leg in Cairo. “I am disappointed that we could not score a goal but I was totally impressed with the performance of the players. We are going to work harder to come out victorious in the battle of Egypt”, Eguavoen said.
