Police kill three robbers, arrest one in Lagos

LAGOS—THE Police in Lagos weekend engaged a gang of armed robbers in a shootout killing three and arresting one in the process during two separate operations.
Sources said, one of the armed robbers identified as Emeka Victor alias lone ranger operated along Lagos- Badagry expressway and was said to have attacked and killed many innocents persons until he met his waterloo on 32 road Festac town.
According to sources, a distress message was received at the Festac Division that Emeka who was armed with a double barrel locally made pistol cut to size was dispossessing people of their valuables including money and a team of anti-robbery men from the Division promptly raced to the area.
On sighting the police the armed robber reportedly fired several shots at the police, snatched a motorbike popularly called Okada and sped away while the police chased after him ferociously.
He was however gunned down few meters from 32 road. When he was searched, three GSM handsets, the locally made pistol, five live cartridges and unspecified amount of money were recovered from him.
In another development, two members of another notorious gang were shot dead in their hideout somewhere at Ajangbadi during a shootout with the police. Police sources said, the incident followed an earlier confessional statement made by a member of the gang who was earlier arrested.
It was gathered that while the police led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Usman Ndababo was being taken to the bandits’ hideout at Ajangbadi by a gang member already in police net, the robbers upon sighting the police, opened fire at the team and a shootout ensued following which two of them were gunned down while others escaped with bullet wounds.
Police public relations officer, Mr. Frank Mba who confirmed the two incident said the bandits popularly called lone ranger had earlier robbed Messrs Solomon Kogi and Dauda Yahu of GSM handsets and cash adding that two English pistols and ten live ammunition and an operational motor bike were also recovered from one of the suspects shot and arrested at Orege area of Ajegunle. The police image maker said the police have launched manhunt for fleeing gang members stressing that they would soon be rounded up.
