NIGERIANS have been advised to desist from making comments, insinuations and publications intended to whip up ethnic sentiments among the various ethnic nationalities.
Akwa Ibom state governor Chief Godswill Akpabio gave the advice on Friday when he received a delegation of Yoruba consultative council in Akwa Ibom State led by its chairman, Dr. Ayandele Isaac Ayanyinka who paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
Governor Akpabio who was reacting to a publication by one Mr. Idowu alleging that properties of Yoruba resident in the state are being revoked said such publication was not only false but was capable of creating ethnic tension between the Yorubas and Akwa Ibom people.
The governor maintained that the present administration is totally detribalized stating “I was very sad when I saw the publication by one of our brothers, Mr. Idowu in the newspapers who bought the 10th anniversary hotel, trying to insinuate that properties of Yoruba people in Akwa Ibom are being revoked”.
Chief Akpabio explained that the C of O of Mr. Idowu’s property had to be revoked by the state government for breach of the condition of the sale. His words “the 10th Anniversary Hotel and the environment was acquired by him and according to the agreement, he should develop the place into a three or five star hotel. But in between, he exercised part of the land and sold for N25 million and the government sees this as breach of the condition of the sale. By selling part of the land, you have reduced the beauty and intention of the hotel” he said.
The state chief executive however directed the Ministry of Lands and Town Planning to renew the revocation with a view to returning the C of O to Mr. Idowu for development or re-sale to the state government. “I have revoked the C of O of the so called excised portion which was given to another individual and return it full to 10th Anniversary Hotel and ordered another review of the revocation of Mr. Idowu's property so the C of O can now be given back to him in totality.
Earlier, the chairman Yoruba consultative council, Dr Ayandele Isaac Ayanyinka expressed satisfaction with the pragmatic leadership style of the Akpabio led administration in the provision of infrastructural facilities to the people of the state.
