Supreme Head of Sacred Cherubim and Seraphim Church of Nigeria Worldwide, His Eminence, Most Elder Apostle Solomon Adegboyega Alao has called on Nigerians to use the occasion of the 48th independence anniversary for sober reflection.
Addressing journalists in Lagos shortly after a one-day marriage seminar organised by Holy Mounts of Salvation, Aguda-Surulere, he said the celebration does not call for any jubilation. “At 48, we are still crawling, that’s the way I see it. As far as I am concerned, it does not call for any celebration or jubilation whatsoever. Israel was born about 50 years ago but where the country has been today, Nigeria can never be there in the next 100 years,” he said.
The cleric called on Nigerians to pray for Mr. President instead of making mess of his health status. “Should we say he is not trying, when he has to battle with his own health or should we say he is trying with the massive unemployment, inflation here and there and insecurity? Within the limit of his fragile health, he has demonstrated his preference for the rule of law, if he could follow it to the letter, there will be change.
"He has shown interest to reform our electoral system. We have seen some traces that he wants to tackle corruption, if he can bring this to reality, we can say he is trying. We cannot say he is not trying because he is still battling with his health.,” said Elder Alao.
The cleric also blamed the Niger Delta Crisis on the past governors in the region and called on them to account for the monies spent during their tenure. "We have to be honest with ourselves," he added "the man at the helm of affairs should invite the past governors and make them account for all the money pumped into the area.”
Elder Alao also called on those behind the region’s crisis to sheathe their sword and embrace peace while also calling on Mr. President to embrace dialogue. According to him, “Niger Delta issue cannot be solved with violence. Using military to solve the problem is only hardening the minds of the people. I shall urge Mr. President to humble himself and discuss with the youths.”
He kicked against the creation of a Niger Delta Ministry, saying it is not the best way to curb violence in the area. “Creating a ministry of Niger Delta does not solve the issue,” he added.|
