Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State has urged traditional rulers in the state to mobilise their subjects to embrace campaigns designed to eradicate polio.
Yuguda made the call on Tuesday in Bauchi during a Durbar organised in his honour by the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Suleiman Adamu, to mark Eid-el-Fitr. Yuguda said it was unfortunate that Bauchi was rated one of the states with the highest polio infection rates. He asked the traditional rulers, who also attended the Durbar, to mobilise their subjects to embrace immuni-sation against polio and the other child’s killer diseases. The governor said for the polio infection rate to drop, the traditional rulers must take firm steps to dissuade their subjects from seeing polio immunisation as “a ploy’’ to depopulate their areas. He said the state government had taken steps to improve healthcare services through the provision of more health facilities. Yuguda disclosed that the state government had placed order for the purchase of 10 dialysis machines, which he said, would be delivered before the end of the year. The governor said the government had increased the supply of potable water to inhabitants of the state’s capital from two million gallons per day to 13 million. He said there were plans to construct 40 bore holes in Bauchi metropolis and its environs as part of the measures to increase peoples’ access to potable water. In his speech, the Emir of Bauchi commended the Governor for the rapid socio-economc development recorded in the state since May, last year. He hailed the Governor for initiating measures aimed at bringing stability into governance, saying his efforts at sustaining peace in the state would undoubtedly aid the state’s growth.
The emir noted that early provision of fertilisers in sufficient quantity to farmers had helped to boost agriculture. |
