FREE and compulsory education will come on stream in Rivers State as soon as the ongoing auditing exercise on primary schools in the state is completed. Governor Rotimi Amaechi gave this assurance in Port Harcourt.
According him, the state government had finalised all arrangements for the programme to take off. Amaechi said the programme was part of effort by his administration to cushion the harsh effect of poverty on the people. Adding that the government was equally dealing with problems relating to infrastructure, healthcare services etc. He said more hospitals and health centres were being built particularly in the rural areas to provide affordable and quality healthcare services for those who could not access private healthcare facilities. He said his administration would not shy away from its duty to provide the people with adequate security. “One thing I can guarantee you is that our state is responsible, our government is responsible, and we must ensure that your life and property are protected by enforcing the law”. He announced that “some foreign investors are willing to invest over two billion dollars in the state if the environment could be made conducive for them”. In a related development wife of the Rivers State Governor Lady Judith Amaechi has called on rural communities in the state to cue into move to actualize the objective of early child education initiative. She spoke during a sensitization tour to the Rivers South East Senatorial district ahead of the formal launch of the early child education centers in the 319 wards.
