Imo govt to ease water scarcity in Owerri E-mail

OWERRI—Water pipelines currently located along roads in Owerri municipality and adjoining villages that are undergoing dualization will soon be re-aligned by the Imo State government, to ease the water scarcity in the state capital. The Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Chief Ralph Nwosu, disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri.

“The temporary hardship being experienced was meant to bring permanent solution to the perennial problem of traffic congestion, especially in the state capital”, Nwosu explained.

Answering a question, the Commissioner said that the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport will start work on all the bad spots in Owerri metropolis, stressing that this will assist in the free flow of traffic in the state capital.

In a related development, a delegation from four local council areas of Owerri North, Ikeduru, Ahiazu Mbaise and Ehime Mbano have solicited the assistance of the state government in the rehabilitation of roads in their respective areas of juridcition.

The roads under reference are Nkwo Emeke/Achara Ubo road in Owerri North local government area, Umuagwu-Abo Ebikoro-Uzoagba-Avuvu-Amakohia-Okwu-Ugurike road in Ikeduru local council area, which also cuts across Ahiazu Mbaise and Ehime Mbano council areas.

Addressing the Commissioner on behalf of his colleagues, Engr. Cyril Osuji said that the roads, when constructed, will alleviate the problems of many communities and promote economic activities in the state.

Responding, the Commissioner promised that government would continue to do what it can to alleviate the suffering of the masses.

This is one big problem with Nigeria-people at the head likes to use every good thing coming to a state within themselves. 
Why must development be limited to the capital city and very near local govt. areas? 
Nobody is doing anything about the rural areas; the deadly erosion in Orlu, Oru local government areas. Why? Because they haven't any body to raise their case. 
In those parts of Imo state, we hardly see electricity, water, let alone roads to drive on. 
And you can hear the Commissioner promising that government would continue doing something about the situation. As if they have done anything. 
Whenever i visit Nigeria, i find it boring even to stay at my homeland. 
Worst still, the rate of robbery attacks in those areas in the rise. 
Then, how is the government helping out issues? 
What are you doing there? Are you waiting for the president to come and build your state?

It is interesting to hear about plans of Imo State Government towards road development around Owerri capital city. Many have been wondering what has been the thinking of those in charge of transport in Imo state when people from communities like Alumaku/Eziogwu/Obokwe all in Uzoagba town in Ikeduru local government, less than a kilometer away from the capital city, are made to travel more than twenty kilometers to reach Owerri. 
Successive governments made promises that they never fulfilled. The result is that during rainy seasons the people from these communities suffer immensely to get to the nearest town. Children and young people in schools sometimes abandon schooling because they can't afford the exorbitant transport charges to and fro school. Pregnant women and sick people sort their faith out as if no government exists.  
For the fact that these communities are at the boundary of Ikeduru local government, they are totally forgotten in the scheme of things at the local government council. We are just asking for road first; not for hospital, education, water and the rest for now. 
We pray that something would turn the attention of the state government towards the marginalization that have been going on for decades.
