GOVERNOR Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State yesterday reassured Deltans of his confidence that President Umaru Yar’Adua has the political will to address the Niger Delta crisis especially with the creation of the Ministry of Niger Delta and the setting up of the Technical Committee on Niger Delta.
The governor who stated this while addressing the people of the state on the occasion of this year’s Independence anniversary also used the occasion to tell the people of Delta State to be more expectant, saying that whatever achievements his administration has far recorded in the area of infrastructure development is just a tip of the iceberg. His words, “Am confident Mr. President has the political will to resolve Niger Delta crisis through creation of Ministry of Niger Delta’, says Uduaghan to fellow Deltans. I would like to commend the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, for his determination towards resolving the Niger Delta crisis, especially with the setting up of the Technical Committee on Niger Delta and the creation of the Ministry of Niger Delta. “I am confident that the political will to carry through the expectations of the President’s initiatives will not be lacking”, he stated. Before the governor mounted the rostrum to address the audience three youths representing the three senatorial districts of the state, came out and enunciated the various achievements made in realization of the administration’s three-point agenda. Responding to the comments made by the youths, Uduaghan said “let us join our young lady from Delta South senatorial district who talked on infrastructure. I want to assure you that what we have done so far is just a tip of the iceberg especially as it relates to the oil producing communities. I want to assure you that we will continue to fund Delta State Oil Producing Development Commission (DESOPADEC) adequately so that it can meet the aspirations and yearnings of the oil producing communities”. He also called on the State House of Assembly to pass the Child Rights Bill, which was referred to by one of the three youths, pointing out that “that bill has been with the House and is over due for passage.” Add as favourites (12) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 299
