ANOTHER round of crisis is brewing in Uvwie local government council area of Delta State as the youth group in the serene community, the Uvwie United Development Movement, (UUDM), have accused the council boss, Mr Peter Abugewa of imposing a leader on them and using the police to harass and intimidate them.
The UUDM said the council Chairman is using government apparatus to suppress the organisation while using his cronies to run it illegally and unwittingly creating a parallel body, saying that despite a High Court injunction restraining the council boss from any kind of harassment, he still do not allow them the free hand to operate in peace. Speaking to Vanguard on the issue, a leader in the UUDM, Mr. Efe Oghogho, acting secretary said the UUDM was duly sworn in by the regent to operate peacefully even before Mr. Peter Abugewa became Chairman, noting that while they were in operation the UUDM was able to secure job allocations to Uvwie indigenes including attracting various development to the Kingdom. He expressed regret that with the coming in of MR. Abugewa and his antics, the youths of the kingdom have been suffering undue neglect and job lost while Mr. Abugewa and his cronnies are feeding fat through various ways in the name of the community. Mr. Oghogho said the council does not usually interfare with the affairs of the youth group in the kingdom and that it is the traditional ruler that directs the affairs of the group as symbolised by their recognition by the regent until recently. While calling on the state government and well meaning individuals in the state to urgently step into the impending fracas in the council area, Mr. Efe Oghogho said they have been law abiding and following due process but warned that their patient is running out as they may take the laws and their destiny into their own hands.
