Group, Ondo gov disagree over Agagu's foreign trips

Opposition parties in Ondo State under the umbrella of the Progressive Coalition (PC), weekend criticised the foreign trips of Governor Olusegun Agagu in the last five years and asked him to explain its financial implications and benefits to the people of the state.
PC comprise the Labour Party (LP), Democratic Peoples Alliance (DPA), Alliance for Democracy (AD) and Action Congress (AC).
In a statement by its Secretary, Dr. Kola Ademujimi and Director of Media and Research, Mr. Bola Ilori, it alleged that the trips engaged by the governor in the last five years were not only frivolous but an attempt to waste the scarce resources of the state.
The group alleged that: “At a time when ‘looking for foreign investors’ has become an over-used cliché to stash Nigerians' resources abroad, we wonder why Agagu and his men have not invented a more believable way to explain Agagu’s recent trips when he is on the verge of vacating the Ondo governorship stool.''
But, reacting to the coalition's challenge, the government described the statement as unfortunate and an attempt to drag the name of the governor and his administration into the mud.
Gov. Agagu's Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Yemi Olowolabi, said: “The statement credited to this coalition is not only unfortunate but totally strange.
“From every statement they make, they tend to advertise their ignorance and wickedness. Only a people without conscience and character will accuse Gov. Agagu of globetrotting and it only in this part of Nigeria that some people will mindlessly criticise a noble venture in the name of politicking.”
Meanwhile, the coalition has called on all security agencies in the state to beam their searchlights on the activities of the state government in recent times.
