weekend. Judging from what the organisers offered; from the red carpet to the professionally constructed stage and runway, the sitting arrangement of the modestly decorated hall, the contest which debuted last year has become one of the biggest modelling contest in the country.
The girls strutted the runway in exclusive fashion collections from one of South Africa’s most brilliant designers, Tula Sindhi, and Nigeria’s high profile designer Frank Osodi of House of Bunor. There were also designs from House of Jola, owned by Joan Okorodudu, originator of Nigeria’s Next Super Model contest.
Judges for this year’s contest were selected from a crop of international model managers and directors from South Africa. They included Deon Redman, CEO and creative producer of the Joburg, Durban and SA Fashion Weeks in South Africa; Rowlene Friedlander, Casting Director at G Casting; and, Christal William, model director at LC Models, South Africa and Mrs Remi Diagbare, editor of Vanguard Allure. According to the judges, Cynthia was announced winner on account of her good carriage, catwalk attributes and posture.
Five other winners emerged during the contest. Of these, 20-year old Macia Okahi, also from Edo State who emerged first. She will represent the country at the Best Model of the World Contest in Turkey next year. Funmilayo Arambambi emerged second, Mojisola Akinsanya came third while Chidinma Blessing and Tolulope Howell camde fourth and fifth respectively. Fourteen-year old Seyi Bamgbose, the youngest contestant, will go for the Miss Teen of the World contest next year.
According to Mrs Joan Okorodudu, these six other winners have bagged a six-month modelling contract with LC Models, South Africa and two thousand dollars worth of clothes from Rukkies.
For the title winner, Cynthia, apart from winning a Kia Rio, she will represent Nigeria at the Model of Colour next year. The Nigeria’s Next Super Model show was punctuated by musical performances by Nigeria’s rock star Dabyna Abraham and Nigerian America-based group, Ash, Bidemi Okorodudu and Aju.
