Benue state commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC, Mr. Richard Ogunbanwo, has reinstated the commitment of men and officers of the command to the ideals of the corps, especially in curbing the activities of vandals who dissipate their energies in destroying the nation’s infrastructure.
The Commandant made the assertion during the commissioning of two vehicles, an eighteen-seater Nissan bus and a Mitsubishi Pick-up van presented to the Benue command by the Commandant General CG of the Corps, Dr. Ade Abolurin, for the effective coverage of the Benue terrain. He stressed that the gesture would in no doubt boost the morale of his men who had also assured the CG of their unalloyed commitment and support in his efforts to take the NSCDC to greater height. “This kind gesture of the Commandant General is received with overwhelming excitement as the officers and men of the command were burning with zeal and to work more than ever before in order to actualize the dreams of our CG to take the corps to greater height”, Ogunbanwo said. A ccording to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Willie Elijah Etim, the vehicles were commissioned in Makurdi by the Special Adviser to the Benue state governor on Security matters Col. Benjamin Aboho(rtd). were also witnessed by officers and men of military and para military organizations in the state. Mr. Ogunbanwo who also lamented the challenges being confronted by the command in the area of logistics called on the state government to come to the aid of the command by emulating their CG in donating vehicles to the command. He disclosed that presently the command could only boost of three operational vehicles at its disposal, which has constituted a handicap to the smooth and optimum operations of his men. The commandant noted that his plea became necessary in view of the incessant vandalisation of government properties by criminally minded individuals who must be check to forestall the destruction of basic infrastructures that cost government fortunes to put in place. He moreover noted that the gesture of the CG was timely as the vehicles would be put to judicious use to effectively combat the incidents of vandalisation of infrastructures in the state among other functions.
