EKPAN—POLICE at Ekpan Division, near Warri, Delta State, have apprehended one Ufuoma, a member of a robbery gang, which specialises in robbing tricycle passengers and then pushing them off while on motion. The suspects were arrested at Ekpan and Udu areas of the state.
Meanwhile, a brave driver, Chima Ikechukwu, caught and conveyed to the Issele-Uku Police Division, in Delta State, a 27-year-old suspected robber, Azubuike, who he alleged robbed him and his passengers in November 15 last year.
Commissioner of Police, Delta State, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, who confirmed the arrest of the suspects to Vanguard, said: “They received information that one Sonai Ossaiof 32, Orumarho Street, Jakpa Road, Effurun, boarded a tricycle with two occupants.
“On getting to a point along Refinery Road, the occupants robbed her of a Samsung phone valued N70, 000 and pushed her out of the tricycle.
“Later, another victim, one Faith Obosuvwe of 90, Okoranefe Street, DSC Township, Udu, boarded the same tricycle and was robbed of N25,000 and also pushed out of the tricycle.
“Her cry for help attracted policemen on TOD at Army Link Road, off Refinery Road, who went after the hoodlums and the suspect, who is the tricycle rider, was arrested, while one Kingsley of 1st Marine Gate, Warri, escaped with the knife used by the robbers.
“The tricycle, with number plates BEN 696 QD, was recovered, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect.”
Victim recognises robber, nabs him
On the suspect arrested and handed over to the Police, the victim, Chima, who resides at Issele Uku, disclosed that the suspect and others at large robbed him and his passengers while they were travelling from Onitsha to Abuja, along Idumuje-Ugboko-Ewohimi Road.
The Police Commissioner told Vanguard: “He (complainant) stated that on the day of the robbery incident, he was able to identify the suspect and one other and that the suspect on sighting him took to his heels.
“The suspect confessed to have also jumped bail in a case of murder pending before a court. The case is under investigation.”
