MAIDUGURI—Borno State Government, Monday, appealed to the Federal Government to take immediate action to save the Maiduguri-Gamboru-Ngala Highway from total collapse.
The road, which links Nigeria, Cameroon and Chad Republic, has been in a deplorable condition for over a decade.
Governor Kashim Shettima made the appeal while receiving the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on a courtesy visit in Maiduguri.
Shettima lamented that the highway had become a source of worry to travellers moving from Nigeria to other countries, saying “one of the important roads that we have is the Maiduguri-Gamboru-Ngala Road, which is now in terrible shape
“In fact, the worst part of the road is the 52 kilometres covering Dikwa-Ngala. Its muddy nature makes it impassa-ble once the rains set in.”
Responding, Fashola expressed happiness that the contractor handling the Damaturu-Maiduguri portion of the Kano-Maiduguri dual carriage way had demobilised to site after facing security challenge by Boko Haram.
