ABUJA – The All Progressive Congress, Kogi East caucus, Thursday, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint an Igala extraction as replacement for the late Minister of State for Labour, Barrister James Ocholi, who died on March 6, 2016 in a ghastly motor accident along Abuja-Kaduna road.
The APC caucus, who passed the resolution via a communiqué issued at the end of its elaborate meeting in Abuja, pleaded with the President to do the needful by urgently appointing a minister from the East Senatorial district of the state, which produced the late Ocholi.
This meeting was the first the zone convened since the demise of two prominent leaders, the Governorship candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu and the former Minister of State for Labour, James Ocholi.
Those who attended the meeting include the APC Zonal Chairman, Prof. Isa Daniel, who is also the leader of the party in Eastern prank, Senators Emmanuel Dangana Ocheja and Abdulrahman Abubakar, House of Representatives members, Hon. Benjamin Ikani Okolo and Hon. Hassan Omale.
Others include a member representing North Central at the scrapped Sure-p Hajia Alimo Alfa, former governorship candidate, Chief Okpanachi Ubolo, Chief ohn Odawn, Major General Patrick Akpa, retd, Hon. Tom Zakari, retired Commissioner of Police, Mr Aurenus Adejoh and Secretary of APC in Kogi State as well as Mr. Gowon Egbunu amongst others.
The communiqué while commending the efforts of the State Governor, Alhaji Yaya Bello in piloting the affairs of the state, however, called on the governor to reinstate all the genuine Igala sons and daughters the state refers to as ghost workers to their respective positions.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the meeting, the Zonal Chairman, Prof. Isa Daniel, while reacting to the insinuation that President Muhammadu Buhari might appoint a former Deputy Governorship candidate to Prince Audu, Hon. James Faleke as minister, said, “It is a rumour or speculation as you rightly said.
According to him, “You see, we are from Kogi East, late Barrister James Ocholi was an Igala man from Kogi East, and to us Igala nation, that is our slot. We will always appeal to the President, Muhammadu Buhari to kindly replace Mr. James Ocholi with an Igala person for us. That is our stand as far as zoning is concerned. “
He lamented that the Kogi East and the state in general has missed a lot due to non replace of Mr. Ocholi almost a year after his death, adding, “we have missed a lot.
“You know what it takes for you not to have a representative at the Federal Executive Council, FEC, level. Anytime there is a federal executive meeting, Kogi people would not be represented as a state. it is quite disheartening, that is to say nobody is talking for us and nobody is hearing from us. So, it is a monumental loss as far as policies are concern.”
