ABA—Piqued by what it described as irregularities that greeted the conduct of the December 21 council polls in Abia State, a group, Forum of 2016 APC Local Government Chairmanship and Deputy Chairmanship Candidates, Abia State, has called on the State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC, to withdraw the certificates of return issued to all the PDP chairmanship, deputy chairmanship and councillorship candidates in the 17 council areas and 292 electoral wards in the state.
The forum insisted that no election was held in any of the 292 electoral wards in the state and urged the Chairman of ABSIEC, Justice Igbozuruike Akomas to immediately resign his position for allegedly conniving with the PDP to declare fake results.
Briefing journalists in Umuahia, Chairman and Publicity Secretary of the Forum, Ebere Uzoukwa and Chief Ejiofor Okeudo, respectively, alleged that on the day of the polls, ABSIEC officials handed over original result sheets and other sensitive election materials to PDP candidates while creating the impression that it conducted the elections.
“We call on ABSIEC to immediately withdraw the certificates of return purportedly issued to PDP chairmanship, deputy chairmanship and councillorship candidates. Abians never elected them as council chairmen, deputies and councilors.”
