Taxi driver narrowly escaped mob action for manhandling pregnant woman

Abuja – A taxi driver narrowly escaped mob action on Tuesday in Abuja after he was seen dragging a pregnant woman out of his taxi because her water broke in his car.

The incident took place on Lusaka Street, Wuse Zone 6.

The driver who was referred to as Baba Ladapo said that he thought that the woman had deliberately urinated in his car because they were arguing over the price of the fare.

Johson Oddo, a vendor who witnessed the incident told NAN that the driver violently pulled the woman onto the road, shouting at her to pay for the damage.

“The man just stopped his car and walked to the passenger’s side.

“He suddenly opened the door and began pulling the woman’s hands so she would get out of the car.

“We all noticed she was heavily pregnant and wet, so myself and some men here ran towards them to stop the man.

“A man here began to shout that the woman is in labour and her water had broken, but the taxi driver was too bothered about his car.

“He was asked to take the woman to the hospital, but he refused.

“People began beating him and pounced on his car but he was able to get in and drove off,’’ he said.

The woman was, however, rushed to the nearest hospital by a good Samaritan. A taxi driver narrowly escaped mob action on Tuesday in Abuja after he was seen dragging a pregnant woman out of his taxi because her water broke in his car.
