Uyo—Gunmen have kidnapped a prominent politician and businessman, Obong Amaete Akpan Ntuk, from Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
He was reportedly abducted with his wife at 7p.m. on Saturday, on his way home from Ibom International Airport.
Although details of the kidnap were still sketchy at press time, Vanguard gathered that the incident occurred at a village in Mkpat Enin Local Government, near Ikot Abasi.
The victims, it was also learned, were returning home after attending the inauguration of the new Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Obong Nsima Ekere, in Abuja on Friday.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Police Command, Cordelia Nwawe, confirmed the incident to Vanguard on the telephone, but did not give further details.
According to her, “his name is Obong Amaete Akpan Ntuk and investigation is in progress,” but she did not confirm if the wife to the politician was also abducted by the assailants.
Obong Ntuk, it would be recalled, was a former Chairman of Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of the state in 1990, under the National Republican Convention, NRC.
