Catholic women confer honorary title on Enugu Deputy Governor

The Christian Women Association of St Mulumba Catholic Church Parish, New Haven has conferred the Deputy Governor of Enugu State, Lolo Cecelia Ezeilo with the title of “Ugegbe Umunwanyi” (Mirror of Women).

The conferment was done during the group’s annual Conference/Thanks Giving Service in Enugu recently.

In her remarks while accepting the title, the Deputy Governor thanked members of the association for the honour done on her and promised to continue to ensure that women were always given their rightful place in society and that their welfare was religiously protected.

She said that women as embodiments of peace, mercy and compassion, were expected to be supportive of their spouses by championing these attributes in their various homes.

In a sermon delivered during the church service, the parish priest, Very Rev. Fr. Val Eze stated that success and achievement in society are best measured by how far the rich are able to touch the lives of the poor positively, noting that the Deputy Governor would be judged by posterity as a highly successful public officer in view of her commitment to the well being of women and the poor in society.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Head of Service, Enugu State, Barr. Chidi Ezema who equally had the honorary title of, “Ideal Couple” conferred on him and his wife, expressed delight at the challenge imposed on him by the highly symbolic title, and promised to always strive to uphold the lofty ideals of family union.

Those that attended the event with the Deputy Governor included the wife of the Majority Leader, Enugu State House of Assembly, Mrs. Vivian Ezeugwu and the acting chairman ESEC, Mrs. Jane Agudo among others.
