Abuja—The Police Service Commission yesterday alerted that fraudsters have opened a fake facebook account with the name of its chairman, Sir Mike Mbama Okiro, (retd), with a view to swindling members of the public.
A statement from the Commission said: “The fraudsters are already demanding for money from applicants in the on-going police recruitment by Police Service Commission.
“The Commission recently concluded state screening and would in no distant time begin the second phase of the process leading to the recruitment.” Chairman of the commission, Mike Okiro, said in Abuja he had no facebook account and had never operated such an account.
He advised unsuspecting applicants to beware of the fraudsters and not get desperate about recruitment into the force. He reiterated his earlier statement that the recruitment would be transparent and based on merit.
Okiro noted that the commission would resist any pressure to undermine or compromise the integrity of the process as well as the outcome and assured that the fraudsters would soon be apprehended.
He said the police were already after the culprits and would soon apprehend them, warning that anybody paying for any assistance to be recruited would be definitely disappointed.
